Its Caddis Time on the South Platte

Picture

It’s caddis time on the South Platte River near Deckers. An assortment of larva and pupa is effective mid day. I recommend having plenty of #18 Buckskins, #16-18 Barr’s Graphic Caddis, and #16-18 Mercer’s Swing Nymph.

Anglers are picking up a few on the adults too. Three of my favorites are #16 Puterbaugh Caddis, #16 Elk Hair Caddis, and a #16 Corn Fed Caddis. The finicky South Platte trout seem to prefer skated Elk Hair Caddis over dead drifted imitations. I hope you can get out and enjoy the caddis hatch…its been pretty good as of late!
